The National Freedom of Information Coalition is a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting and expanding the public’s right to access government records and meetings. Through education, advocacy, and legal support, the organization works to ensure that transparency remains a cornerstone of democratic government at the local, state, and federal levels.
The website serves as a valuable resource for journalists, researchers, community advocates, and citizens seeking to understand and exercise their rights under public records and open meetings laws. Visitors can find educational materials explaining Freedom of Information laws, state specific transparency resources, legal updates, and practical guidance for requesting government records.
One of the coalition’s greatest strengths is its nationwide network of state freedom of information organizations. This network helps connect individuals with local experts who understand their state’s public records laws and can provide assistance when access to public information is denied. The organization also publishes news, research, and policy updates related to government transparency and open government initiatives.
For investigators, watchdog organizations, and civic groups, the National Freedom of Information Coalition provides essential tools for holding public officials accountable. Whether you are filing your first public records request or conducting long term investigative research, the website offers reliable information that supports transparency, accountability, and informed public participation.
